Priestly ministry

Motto: ”God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”(John 4:24)

After the period of ”conscience”, the time of laws of Moses came. (see section The 7-year end-time period) After Moses had received the two stone tables containing the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17), God ordered the construction of the tabernacle (Exod 25) and the election of the priests to service (Numbers 18). Earthly priesthood was shared. The tribe of Aaron ministered around the altar. Only they could minister behind the second veil, in the holiest of all. The high priest could enter it once a year and he made, offered a sacrifice for himself and for the sins of the people. It was a covenant of salt. And the Levites (the tribe of Levi) joined to and served with the priests. They took care of the sanctuary, the holy tabernacle, they served around it. This priestly regulation was functioning at the time of both Temples in Jerusalem. (The Temple of Solomon and the one built after the Babylonian captivity)

The approximately 2,000-year period, which characterized the earthly nature and the operation of priestly ministry came to an end by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once and for all. He is (was) not a man that dies, but who ”is witnessed that he liveth.” (Hebrews 7:8). Verse 16: ”Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.”And although he is (was) the seed of Abraham bodily - as promised - (see the origin of Jesus, Matthew 1:1-17), it was necessary that God make the priestly ministry itself perfect in his Son, as the priesthood of Aaron was not such. And since it was really not perfect, God planned to bring that kind of spiritual priesthood to the visible world, which is represented by Melchisedec, whom Abraham personally met and of whom Jesus spiritual priestly origin is represented in the Scripture like this:

Hebrews 5:6 ” Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 5:10 ”Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

And who is Melchisedec?

”And Melchizedek king of Salem …: and he was the priest of the most high God.” (Gen. 14:18)

”For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, [...] first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.” (Hebrews 7:1-3)

And since Jesus sacrificed himself the Word has been writing about him as follows:

”But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (Heb 9:11-12)

After his sacrifition, he ”... is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.” (Heb 9:24)

So, ”brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh” (Heb 10:19-20)

The New Testament says the following about priesthood, priestly service to the believers:

”But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” (1Pet 2:9)

And about his sons this:

”… ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:26)

”... the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things ...” (1 John 2:27)
